Question by Anteater400: Would the 1 Laptop Per Child program be useful to a 3 yr old with developmental delays?
This 3 year old little girl does not speak; only humming sounds are heard. Though no definitive diagnosis for autism has been confirmed, she hums, withdraws, repeats behavior, does some games on the family computer. How beneficial would the One Laptop program be for her?

What would a 3 year old do with a laptop besides sit and eat off it.

If she enjoys playing on the computer, it’d be a great way for her to interact. There are lots of games where she can learn a lot while having fun, and she can even draw pictures. It’s also a great charity to be a part of. I’m all for it!
It could be useful. Especially if you can put games on it for her which she likes or connect it to the internet which gives her access to even more games. This way she can grow with it, as she can find more challenging games once she gets bored of the ones she already plays.
You could also put a speech program on it which “speaks” for her. You can get programs which use symbols such as compic for her. A speech therapist should be able to help you with what level of communication she can use.
