If you think that they will act worse for ending the care earlier then don not give notice just let them know with a phone call or mail it. But if they will still treat your child well then give them notice now saying that you are ending 2 weeks earlier then planned.

The daycares in my area all need 1 months notice so I think you should give as much notice as possible. She could depend on that money... you could pay her for the last week and take him out. Getting the guilt trip isn't right though. She shouldn't do that... try to ignore it.

Technically, you can pull your son anytime you want. She's the one that put herself in that position by not having a contract. It's not your fault she doesn't have good business practices. Maybe you just sit down and tell her that you'd like to honor your previous verbal termination date, but you can't subject your son to negative ideas (such as him not learning, not having social skills, etc) and if she can't stop, his last day is today. You have no obligation to her legally without a contract. I am part of a 25 year home daycare so usually I take the providers side. But, in this case...the woman is stupid for not having a contract and is inappropriate for making these comments. She should be concentrating on teaching your son about being a big brother and things like that. My mother (a 25 year provider) makes all pregnant moms baby blankets...doesn't tell them they're making a wrong decision if they're leaving.

If possible, I would let the family friends watch him the 2 weeks AFTER the baby is born to let everyone get settled. Just an idea ;-)

You should give her at least a week's notice. It is a business arrangement, after all, and you would certainly have expected notice from her if she, for whatever reason, could no longer provide care for your child. To put in in perspective, you are providing part of her livelihood. Guilt trips or not, like it or not, contract or not, she counts on your 'tuition' payment to take care of her own family, or at least herself, and it seems to me like common human decency to let her know sooner than later.
