I am a nurse now but plan on starting a family in the next few years. I would like to be able to stay at home with my child so I was thinking of having a daycare. Any suggestions on getting the funds and how to make it successful?

First thing you need to do is go to your local child services and see what their requirements are. That will be your biggest obstacle. Then, check with a bank. They can give you all kinds of info. IF it is a home daycare or even if it isn’t, start looking at yard sales and picking up good used toys. IF you are needing to remodel so the kids have a “daycare room” this is where the bank will come in handy! Also, check with friends and co-workers to see what they like about their kids daycare and what they would want to change. Do a lot of asking around. Your friends are a great source of info. There are no federal license requirements to Open a Dog Daycare. There are however, numerous county and city ordinances, and local governments that do require a dog daycare facility to be licensed. In most cases the license requirements and application are the same as those of a boarding kennel and will require inspections from the health department and local officials on an annual basis. This is to insure that proper sanitation methods are followed so as to eliminate the possibility of spreading infectious diseases from animal to animal. They will also check your records to insure that you maintain up to date vaccination records for the animals participating in services at your facility. The kennel industry can also face inspections by the local health department to check your handling and disposal of solid waste.

Some States require approval by the state board of agriculture as an animal boarding facility and some do not, this is very much a regional issue.

You are going to have to contact your local county or city administration office and review the city and county ordinances specific to your location to determine exactly what the license requirements for a Dog Daycare facility are in your specific area. If you plan on boarding animals overnight then in 90% of the counties and cities you will need to obtain a kennel license. Those that choose to offer grooming services may need to obtain approval by not only your local government but from the state environmental protection agency as well. This is due to the fact that flea and tick shampoos contain pesticides and require specialized disposal procedures as well as specialized plumbing equipment to prevent backwards suction of hazardous chemicals into the city potable water supply.

Your gonna need dog toys, beds, a yard to play in, experience with dogs. (Maybe take a dog training course) Food, treats.

You can also contact a local day care provider and see if they are willing to talk to you about the business, (some people may not talk because its competition).

My dog day care charged me for half day, for full day. Some people charge or a little more. It depends on your location, the demand for a doggy daycare, and the size of the day care and how many dogs you can take in.

Hello, i might be starting a course at university in April, i won’t be staying there as i only live a short travel from it. But i have a 1 year old boy, i thought Care To Learn would be able to help with child care costs but i have just read they don’t when it’s university so can anyone tell me who could help as i won’t be able to afford it all?

NOBODY! YOU chose to have a kid, it’s YOUR responsibility to support it. If you can’t afford the care, then you don’t go to school. You should have been in school instead of having a kid, huh? You PAY for your own CHOICES hun, it’s not up to us!

My wife is considering taking in a few children as an alternative to her working and leaving our child in daycare all day. Not only is it expensive, but she would love to be home with her all day. Depends on your state’s requirements. Here in my state, part of the process requires an application for a license, background check and finger-printing, fees, and a home inspection to be sure it is a safe environment for the children. You should be able to find out specifics on-line for your state by doing a yahoo search with the key words “(your states name) private daycare license requirements.”

You go to your local Human or Social Services office and obtain a copy of the licensing rules and regulations for day care in your state. Learn the requirements of the different types of licenses and figure out what capital you need to get started. There should also be a state licensing consultant willing to answer your questions.

Are you tired of your 9 to 5 job? Or maybe you are at the point that you want to be your own boss. Whatever the reason, you are looking to do some research on how to start your own daycare business. But before you think about jumping into the daycare pool, you need to get your feet wet and come up with a business plan that will be the rock of your business. Your daycare business plan will be the document that you will go to when ever you run into any hurdles, which is a definite possibility.

Here are some areas of interest that need to be addressed when developing your home based business plan. You will be making your life a lot easier by developing you business plan ahead of opening your business.

Will you business be a home based or commercial daycare?

Does the state require that I be a licensed daycare? Some states only require that you be licensed if you provide services to so many children.

What type of funding requirements will you need, if any? Some new daycare providers find that they need to upgrade the safety features of there facility. You will need money to do these improvements.

How many children do you plan to provide service for?

Will you need to hire employees and what will the minimal requirements be for your employees?

These are just a few questions that need to be addressed when developing your daycare business plan. Be careful not to rush through developing the plan. It does not need to be perfect and can always be amended to allow you some flexibility as your business grows.

Certification means attending classes prior to opening and undergoing a thorough background check.

I work at a Home Day Care here in Illinois. I know that the provider charges 215 a week for a full time infant. Day care Centers charge 230 I think? Toddlers are 200 a week full time and Preschool are 150 a week full time. I believe she charges by the hour for those parents who only want to come part time…but I’m not sure what that would be.

Good Luck! I’m hoping to someday open a home day care of my own.
